We can't look anywhere without seeing or hearing about a Birkin bag, Louie bag or some other high end swag. There is so much conversation happening about designer this and designer that, it feels like we need to have designer EVERYTHING! Even celebs are being busted with fake Fendi and faux Louis Vuitton (we're looking at you Rick Ross). So, lets have a quick chat about the benefits of designer items and when to splurge and when to save.

Bags and Accessories

Designer bags are the most commonly purchased high end item. They're also the most coveted. We suggest that if you're going to make a high end purchase a purse is a good choice. They last longer, can be repaired easily and used more frequently. Additionally, the range of pricing is wider. You'll get the most bang for you buck!

Shoes

Every Doll should have at least one pair of Christian Louboutin's in her life. There's something about the red sole that sets our soul on fire! Designer shoes are another good choice when it comes to making a high priced purchase. Designer shoes offer all the same benefits of designer bags excluding the option to wear frequently. So, if you have to choose between the bag and the shoes, choose the bag. Boutiques offer high quality comparable options so it's not necessary to splurge on shoes. Especially considering the quantity of shoes we need.

Tops and Bottoms

In a dream world we'd be dressed to the nines in designer and luxurious fabrics. But that's not the case for the financially savvy fashionista. We suggest saving big time when it comes to tops and bottoms. If there is a piece you love go head and make that purchase Doll. But don't fret over designer basics.

*pro-tip* H&M does fire collaborations with high end designers pretty frequently. This is an affordable way to indulge without over spending.

Dresses and Gowns

So, saving and spending are pretty nuanced when it comes to high end purchases. If you're buying for a non-special event do not, I REPEAT DO NOT over spend. Club nights, dinners, and dates are pretty frequent and unless you're Jeff Bezos it's next to impossible to go designer all the way. But if it is a special occasion don't be afraid to spend a little extra.

People say that you're paying for the label when you buy designer. I am not going to lie to you Dolls, that's a lie. Designer items are normally made with natural fibers or responsibly sourced synthetic fibers. These designers pour over every detail and take pleasure in offering the best of the best of the best! No corners can be cut and no detail overlooked. But that's not to say that if it's not designer it's lacking. All items have a place in our closets. There's room for everyone.
